While I was away, I needed to do some work since my leave was abrupt and in the middle of a crucial stage of a project. I was in the hospital for most of the middle of the week and it’s a good thing I’ve set up tethering on my MacbookPro via bluetooth using my N81 before. I was also fortunate that Globe has finally decided to have an option for time-based charging when using mobile broadband which is more cost effective if you’re consuming a lot of data.
The connection was pretty decent but downloading files were pretty much like the earlier days of broadband. ‘Twas probably because my phone was just 3G so it can only have 384kbps max with ideal conditions. So average bandwidth was hovering a little under 300kbps, which is why I’m already thining of getting a better phone despite having just gotten my current phone last April.
Just a month back I was set on getting the iPhone 3G because of MobileMe, but recently I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about Nokia’s E71 and I’m leaning more towards it. It has pretty much everything I want on a smartphone sans the seamless syncing with OS X apps (iCal, Address Book) over-the-air. The major things I like about it is it’s slim and classy profile, the QWERTY keyboard, long battery life and tethering support. I’ll probably think about it again after a month. Hmmm..
