Nokia Sports Tracker

I’ve always wanted to get Nike+ before so I can be a bit more serious about running by keeping track of my runs. Apparently, my phone has a pre installed Sports Tracker and I tried it out this morning.  And according to it, I ran some 2.28km today.

It churns out a lot of stats — pace, distance, time, avg pace, altitude, speed. It has graphs also showing Speed vs. time, Speed vs. distance, Altitude vs. distance. And the coolest thing since it’s using GPS — it can show you the path you ran replay your actual run. Hopefully all these geeky stuff can keep me running regularly.

I need an arm band though so I don’t have to hold it while running. I’m thinking of getting the ones for iPhone, iPod Touch since they have quite a similar form factor. I don’t think Nokia’s gonna produce a sports case for a business phone.

  • Gadgets seem to be my motivation to get into running. I got myself a Nike+ Sportband and then the iPod Touch. So far, super helpful when it comes to tracking your progress (but I noticed these gadgets are NOT very accurate). But more importantly, it keeps me motivated for some reason…

So which Nokia phone model is this you’re talking about?

  • It’s the E71. I think most of the newer phones with GPS from Nokia have this pre installed.

I would assume the Nokia one is a wee bit more accurate than Nike+ since it’s using GPS so there’s several points that measure the actual distance covered. Hehe.

  • Hi,I also use Nokia Sports Tracker for the E71 and I’m loving it (also wanted to get a Nike+ but this definitely seems good enough).

Only thing is, do you know if there’s any data charges or anything for the GPS? I mean when they use the GPS satellites to map out your route, not when you want to upload to the service.

Been scouring the internet for the answer but can’t find it. Maybe I’m just too noob at this GPS thing.
