My laptop’s back and then some

My laptop’s back from the service centre and it looks and feels new again. They had to replace the whole top case to replace the LCD. So my laptop’s now shiny new and the hinge is still tight. It’s good to note that they were quite fast. Their supposedly standard wait time was 5 working days. So kinda got on a mindset of having no laptop for a week. But I got it after 3 working days. I brought it in Tuesday lunch and it was already available for pickup by Friday. I only got to pick it up Saturday since I didn’t have time to go to Funan on Friday since it’s always a busy day for us at the office.

Since I was already at Funan I did a bit of gadget shopping. I finally settled on a Logitech Cordless Trackman Optical as my main pointing device for my home setup. I’m still trying to get used to using the thumb as a clicker though. A couple of weeks should be enough to retrain my hand.

Speaking of my home setup, I also picked up a pair of 2GB RAM sticks so my MBP now has the maximum 4GB of memory it can have. Running VMs now seem to  a whole lot zippier and everything’s generally faster with a lot of apps open. I also got the gf a USB hub since she always keeps on plugging and unplugging peripherals on her MacBook. And I got a third-party Nokia USB charger so that I don’t have to stoop down to plug a charger. Hopefully it these things will all add more to my productivity.

Next thing in my to do list for my home setup is organizing all my files across my MBP, 2 x 500 GB external desktop drives and one 100GB portable drive. I’m planning to dedicate one of the desktop drives just for Time Machine and the other one for data I don’t have to keep on my MBP — like my old source files, unprocessed photos and downloaded stuff. I hope the weekend is enough to start on that.
